Most sports injuries can be prevented for players , coaches and parents alike by using smart habits and good training. Here are a few health tips that a sports chiropractor should provide to help avoid preventable injuries:
Prepare-Obtain a physical examination performed by a physician, nurse practitioner or certified chiropractor of sports. Provide the coach with important information in case of an emergency (phone numbers, doctor information and allergy information , medical history or special medical conditions).
Warm up — Before any practice and game, athletes will warm up and stretch properly to help relieve muscle stress and prevent sport-related injuries.
Hydrate — Learn the dehydration and other forms of heat disease signs and symptoms. Use a water bottle to help your child and allow them to drink water before, during and after playing. Coaches should make compulsory breaks in water during practices and games.
Wear Appropriate Gear — Use suitable and properly fitted sports equipment to prevent or reduce the severity of injuries for both games and practices.
Check for Concussions-The signs and symptoms of a concussion should be identified to players, parents and athlets. If a concussion is suspected, either a sports chiropractor or other medical professional will withdraw the player from the game until checked and cleared.
