Baroque music and Jazz are both based on the contrasts between even period, continuous rhythm, and irregular elements, indeed stark breaks from the underlying evenness. Both feed on the tension created by the anticipated and unanticipated surprise. A further common characteristic is improvisation.
The Dresden Music Festival aims to investigate this open and secret relationship, and reveal how these two styles cross-fertilise. It goes without saying that there will be no shortage of enjoyment at this feast of rhythm, improvisation and swinging musicianship.

Among the venues you find historical monuments like the Wartburg castle (admitted to Unesco’s cultural world heritage), churches and castles of the "Bach cities" in the region. The programme – with different thematic guidelines of special concert series – covers a large scale of musical genres : from classical "mainstream" repertoire to the authentic historical performance on period instruments, from oratorio and acapella choir repertoire to world music.
