The Adelaide Festival of Arts is one of the world’s great performing and visual arts festivals. Since its founding in 1960, it has enjoyed a strong tradition of the presentation of challenging, innovative and sublime artistic experiences from across Australia and the world. Held in the warm South Australian autumn in every ‘even’ year, Adelaide Festival of Arts is a large-scale multi-arts event of extraordinary richness and diversity. The Melbourne Art Festival is held free of charge on the fourth full weekend in April each year in historic downtown Melbourne, Florida. The Melbourne Art Festival attracts nearly 60,000 visitors each year. The highlight of this free Festival is the juried art show, which features over 250 artists from around the country who compete for cash awards in nine categories.

The UWA Perth International Arts Festival, the oldest annual international multi-arts festival in the southern hemisphere, is Western Australia's premier cultural event. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of the "Big 3" Comedy Festivals in the world. And the other two are just about to kick off, proudly featuring dozens of Australian comedy performers! Some of them are performing for the first time overseas, and some of them are bona fide world famous stars. Either way, isn't it great to know that our country's specialty is making people laugh and not, you know, making rare, toxic cheeses or something.

Flickerfest began as a small local festival at the Balmain High School in 1992. In the space of 14 years it has grown to become Australia's only competitive International Short Film Festival with contacts across the globe. Each year the festival director visits festivals around the world seeking new films of a high standard most of which have not been seen in Australia. Flickerfest is considered in International circles as the leading Australian competitive short film festival and increasingly filmmakers view it as one of the main festivals on the world circuit. In 2003 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science elected to recognise Flickererfest as a qualifying festival for the Best Short film and Best Animation categories of the Academy Awards®

Home Brewed first screened as the Home Brewed International Short FIlm Festival in November 2003 at the Dapto Leagues Club, just south of Wollongong, NSW Australia. Attracting a record 111 entries in its first year from around Australia and the World, a field of 20 finalists took to the screen before an appreciative audience of nearly 300 people.

Ten years ago there was a dream, that the Hunter would one day provide a platform for film enthusiasts to celebrate their creations and launch their careers. And so the Newcastle Film Festival was born. Since that time the Film festival has grown in caliber, with entries received not only from our own backyard, but also around the world. 2005 is set to exceed all expectations by showcasing a unique and diverse range of homegrown movies that chronicles the evolution of the Australian Culture through film.

Wangaratta Festival of Jazz. [October - November] The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz is an annual festival of jazz and blues held in the town of Wangaratta 2.5 hours from Melbourne in North East Victoria, Australia. It has become the premier jazz event in Australia and is renowned internationally.Since inception in 1990, the festival has grown to include 90 events and over 350 national and international artists performing each year. The first Adelaide Festival of Ideas was held in 1999 (July 9 –11) and explored the themes of reconciliation; ethics and the law; democracy, survival and cooperation and speakers participated in such sessions as Democracy, Survival and Co-operation, Life, The Universe and Everything and Hello Dolly: cloning, ethics and the law.

The first Australian Science Festival was held in 1993 when about 70,000 visitors attended the 65 events on offer. The Festival enjoyed rapid growth and now attracts about 120,000 visitors a year to approximately 180 high-quality events.
