The 25-year history of Baalbeck International Festival is deeply rooted in European culture. Heliopolis is respected all over the world, being the historical venue of the meeting of the gods of antiquity. With this unique historical background, those who created the festival in 1957 - and those who recreated it after the tragic period of war, in 1997 - were inspired by the genius loci in the programming: local heritage and foreign cultures, classical European music and contemporary dance theatre, theatre and jazz; Baalbeck remained a meeting point, a crossroad of cultures.
