Is CBD Safe?

For many years, CBD has been touted as a cure for cancer and other ailments. The active component of CBD is cannabidiol, which is found in hemp. Cannabidiol has been called “Cannabis’ Number One Super Nutritional Asset”. CBD is a phytochemical found in hemp. It is among the many dozen or so identified phytocannabinoids in cannabis plants. CBD is found in small amounts in chocolate, coffee and has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect in humans. Check CBD.

Though it is not known what the medical community regards as to whether or not CBD is of value in treating any disease, there have been some studies that point to the fact that it has anti-cancer activity. This activity is only seen in cancer cells, however. Scientists are looking at CBD’s ability to kill cancerous cells in mice. The study concluded that CBD seemed to work by binding to a receptor on cancerous cells, causing them to die. This study did not look at CBD’s effect on normal cells, but it does show that the compound may be helpful in reducing cancer.

Other human studies point to the potential for CBD as an anti-inflammatory. However, there are also reports of CBD having a harmful effect on human brain cells. There is no way to prove that CBD is safe. But if the results of animal and cell studies are any indication, there is at least some evidence that CBD can have some beneficial effect on brain function. The jury is still out.
